So here is it, the second part to my superseed blog. Let’s jump straight in shall we?

Pumpkin seeds 

Eat them raw as a seed or grind down into a powder for protein shakes. These seeds are also great for salads and roasted vegetables and trail bars or even dip and fish toppings.

Top Benefits 

  • High in B vitamins
  • Contains Iron, magnesium, zinc
  • High in protein
  • Fatty acids (helps blood vessels)
  • Lowers bad cholesterol

Sunflower seeds 

Munch on them raw or add into baking recipes – normally found in whole grain breads


Top Benefits 

  • High in folate and B vitamins
  • Vitamin E (antioxidant that helps cells, hair, skin and nails)
  • Rich in heart healthy fats
  • High in protein

Flax seeds 

Not my favourite seed but I find it in many free from and healthy foods so I seem to consume more of it than I know.

The seeds must be ground before consuming. You can add them into shakes, salads, baking, yogurts, cereals….. (The flavour is quite nutty)

*keep ground flaxseeds in an airtight container in the fridge and don’t eat them whole.

 Top Benefits

  • Soluble fibre (good for helping Bowels movements) 
  • Lowers bad cholesterol
  • Helps blood sugar levels
  • Omega 3 fatty acids (helps your brain and eyes)


You have heard me talking about this seed a few times before (refer to my previous blogs if you wish) I use it a few times a week but refrain from everyday use and it’s just too much fibre for me. 

Chia can be put into salads, oatmeals, cereals, made into vegan egg, used as a hydration drink or even sprouted. 

Top Benefits 

  • High in soluble fibre
  • Omega 3 fatty acids
  • Calcium + magnesium (helps bone and dental health)
  • High in Iron and Folate
  • Makes you feel full longer
  • Balances blood sugar
  • Helps bad cholesterol

Pomegranate seeds 

What a beautifully coloured fruit with so many healthy benefits. Eat them as it is, add into savoury or fruit salads. Drink them as a juice, add the sauce into a chicken stew – (Iranian recipe- let me know if you would like the details) 

Top Benefits 

  • Rich and very high in antioxidants (more than green tea/red wine !!)
  • Helping premature ageing 
  • Fights free radicals – prevents blood clots 
  • Improves oxygen levels to blood 
  • High in vitamin C + potassium 
  • Prevents hardening of artery walls
  • Helps inflammation and heals cartilage

  1. I love chia, flax, and sunflower seeds and put them in salads, smoothies, and bread. This is a great synopsis on why these seeds are beneficial to us.
